Stadium and Arena Bag Size Limits by League, Compared Side

The NFL and college football mostly share one limit, a clear bag up to 12 by 6 by 12 inches. MLB parks split between that and a bigger 16 by 8 by 16 inch bag. NBA and NHL arenas choose their own, and many allow only small clutches. Check the venue, not just the league.

A venue is counted once per league it belongs to, so NBA and NHL arenas that host both appear in both rows. Venues that state a clear bag policy without a size are counted as no size stated.

How to read the table

The NFL and college football rows lean on one number because the NFL clear bag policy set a standard that many schools copied. A league does not enforce it at every game, though, and a few venues add a stricter rule of their own.

Baseball is the split league. Many parks keep a larger bag allowance, while others use the clear 12 by 6 by 12 inch size. Basketball and hockey arenas are the most varied, and several allow only a clutch or wallet. Each arena and stadium page states its own limit.

Questions about bag size by league

  1. No. Only the NFL publishes a league-wide clear bag page, and even there each stadium can add its own rule. Other leagues leave the limit to each venue.

  2. In the venues we have verified, NBA and NHL arenas include the smallest limits, with several allowing only a clutch or wallet of about 4 by 6 inches.

  3. Not always. A venue may set a different rule for concerts, so open your event page before you pack.
