MLB Bag Policies: What Each Ballpark Allows Through the Gate

MLB clubs publish their own bag rules. Yankee Stadium, Rogers Centre, Citi Field, Oracle Park and Target Field allow bags up to 16 by 16 by 8 inches, Fenway Park and Dodger Stadium cap bags at 12 by 12 by 6 inches, and Wrigley Field bans backpacks. We have verified 30 of the 30 MLB ballparks we cover.

No single league rule

We found no league-wide bag page for MLB, and the club pages we read do not agree. Yankee Stadium allows one soft-sided bag up to 16 by 16 by 8 inches and does not require it to be clear. Rogers Centre sets the same size and also discourages bags altogether. Wrigley Field uses that size too, but bans backpacks, clear ones included. Fenway Park caps single-compartment bags at 12 by 12 by 6 inches, and Dodger Stadium allows only clear bags of that size or a small clutch. Citi Field and Oracle Park use the same size, but Citi Field allows totally clear backpacks and Oracle Park bans every backpack, clear ones included. Busch Stadium caps bags, purses and soft-sided coolers at 10 by 8 by 10 inches, Target Field allows single-compartment bags up to 16 by 16 by 8 inches, Petco Park allows only single-compartment clear bags and small clutches, and Truist Park allows no bags beyond a clutch of 5 by 9 inches. Comerica Park allows only a bag, wallet or clutch up to 4 by 6 by 1.5 inches, plus diaper and medical bags. Great American Ball Park, Progressive Field, PNC Park, Coors Field and Daikin Park use 16 by 16 by 8 inches too, and Globe Life Field uses 16 by 8 by 16. Most of those ban backpacks, and PNC Park allows one soft-sided backpack. Kauffman Stadium, American Family Field and Chase Field lean on clear bags, with a small clutch or non-clear bag beside them. Nationals Park requires a clear bag within 16 by 16 by 8 inches and bans backpacks, clear ones included, while Citizens Bank Park, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Tropicana Field and T-Mobile Park use the smaller 12 by 6 by 12 inches or similar, with a small clutch beside it. Rate Field uses 12 by 12 by 6, loanDepot park clear bags up to 16 by 16 by 8, and Angel Stadium bans all backpacks and allows a 12 by 12 inch bag with a single zipper. Sutter Health Park asks for a clear bag above 8 by 5 by 1 inches and gives no clear bag size.

The same size can come with a different style rule, which is why each ballpark page links to its own source and shows the date we read it.

Questions about MLB rules

  1. We have not verified one. Each ballpark page shows what that venue's own policy says, with the source and the date we read it.

  2. We read each venue's own policy before showing a rule. The ones still marked have not been read yet, and we do not guess while they wait.

  3. Not always. The venues we have verified say their rules can change by event, so check the event page for your date.
