Can You Bring a Camera to a Game or Concert? Check Rules

Short answer

Cameras are usually split into personal and professional gear. Venues often allow a small camera and ban long lenses, video cameras, tripods and selfie sticks, though the details change. Of the 302 venues we have checked, 6 allow it, 264 allow it with conditions, 1 does not allow it and 31 do not mention it. See each venue below.

0 more venues are queued for review and will join this table once their rules have a source and a date.

What cameras rules look like

  • Personal still cameras are allowed at the venues we checked that set a camera rule, with limits on lens length or type.
  • Lens limits differ. Several NFL stadiums we checked cap lenses at 6 inches, Levi's Stadium, AT&T Stadium and Chase Center cap them at 3 inches, Lumen Field bans 200 mm and longer, Shoreline Amphitheatre bans any lens that zooms out more than 1 inch, one arena bans telephoto and zoom lenses, another bans any detachable lens, Rogers Centre caps detachable lenses at 3 inches, Wembley bans interchangeable lenses, and one stadium allows extended-length zoom lenses if they do not interfere.
  • One arena sets lens rules by league: no detachable lenses at its NBA games and 75 mm at its NHL games.
  • Several ballparks, BC Place and Dodger Stadium cap lenses at 6 inches, and TD Garden allows only point-and-shoot cameras with an optical zoom of 5x or less. Nissan Stadium and Acrisure Stadium cap lenses at 6 inches, Fiserv Forum at 3.5 inches, Toyota Center at 4 inches for some events and Kaseya Center at 6 inches for Heat games. Bank of America Stadium bans cameras with a detachable lens. Ascend, Talking Stick and Shoreline amphitheaters treat any lens that zooms out more than 1 inch as professional, ACL Live allows only cameras smaller than a shirt pocket, and T-Mobile Center wants cameras carried outside any case. Progressive Field caps lenses at 6 inches, American Family Field, Globe Life Field, Daikin Park and Chase Field at 8 inches, and Kauffman Stadium bans lenses of 12 inches or more. Angel Stadium, Citizens Bank Park and T-Mobile Park cap lenses at 6 inches, Camden Yards at 7, Nationals Park, loanDepot park and Rate Field at 8, Tropicana Field at 12, and Sutter Health Park bans interchangeable lenses. Of the arenas added since, Paycom Center, FedExForum, Kia Center, Frost Bank Center, Rogers Place and PPG Paints Arena cap lenses at 3 inches, Grand Casino Arena at 3.5, Prudential Center and Bell Centre at 2.5, Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Honda Center at 6, and Saddledome and Rogers Arena at 75 mm. Lenovo Center allows detachable lenses under 5 inches, and Moda Center, Golden 1 Center, Intuit Dome, Rocket Arena, Climate Pledge Arena, T-Mobile Arena and Canadian Tire Centre ban interchangeable or detachable lenses. Lens limits also include 6 inches at Arrowhead Stadium and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, 12 inches at Lambeau Field, 5 inches at Lincoln Financial Field, 4 inches at Ball Arena, 3 inches at Barclays Center and 2.5 inches at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Others include 6 inches at Empower Field, Allegiant Stadium and Highmark Stadium, 5 inches at Ford Field, 4 inches at Lucas Oil Stadium and 3 inches at NRG Stadium and State Farm Arena. Also 6 inches at Paycor Stadium, EverBank Stadium, U.S. Bank Stadium and Petco Park, 5 inches at Truist Park and for detachable lenses at Northwest Stadium, 3 inches at Target Center, 8 inches for detachable lenses at Little Caesars Arena, and only tiny cameras with a 1 inch lens extension at Delta Center.
  • Selfie sticks are banned at nearly every venue we checked that mentions them, Angel Stadium allows them if they do not interfere with other fans, and Universal Orlando expects them to be secured on attractions. Tripods are banned or discouraged at the venues that name them, except Disney's parks, which allow one that fits in a standard backpack and does not extend over 6 feet. At Six Flags, monopods are banned everywhere and tripods vary by park.
  • Video cameras and gear made only for recording are banned at most of the venues we checked. Rogers Centre allows video cameras at Blue Jays games but bans recording game footage.

Before you go

  1. 1Leave the detachable lens and the camera case at home unless the venue clearly allows them.
  2. 2Phones are generally not counted as recording devices, but device-free events change that.
  3. 3Check the event page. Camera rules can differ between a game and a concert.

Questions about cameras

  1. A small personal camera is often fine, and professional gear usually is not. Lens length, video recording and tripods are where venues push back. Check the venue and the event page.

  2. Venues define it differently. One arena describes professional cameras as those with telephoto or zoom lenses. some NFL stadiums set a 6 inch lens limit instead, others use 3 inches, and another arena bans any camera with a detachable lens.

  3. Mostly not. Selfie sticks are banned at nearly every venue we checked that mentions them, usually grouped with tripods and monopods, though Angel Stadium allows them if they do not interfere with other fans and Universal Orlando expects them to be secured on rides.
