What backpacks rules look like

  • A clear bag policy usually means a backpack has to be clear and fit the size limit. Lumen Field and Levi's Stadium allow a clear backpack within 12 x 6 x 12 inches, while AT&T Stadium bans backpacks of every kind and Caesars Superdome names clear backpacks as not permitted. Bank of America Stadium and Acrisure Stadium ban non-clear backpacks and do not name clear ones.
  • Some venues do not name backpacks and apply the general bag rule instead.
  • Hard-sided bags are banned at the stadiums we checked that say so, and PNC Park, Globe Life Field and Coors Field want soft-sided bags only.
  • Some arenas let any style of bag in, clear or not, as long as it fits under your seat or a stated size, such as 14 x 6 x 14 inches at Chase Center.
  • Several arenas allow no backpacks at all, only a tiny purse or clutch: up to 10 x 6 x 2 inches at United Center, Toyota Center and Kaseya Center, 5 x 9 x 1 at another, 6.5 x 4.5 at a third and 6 x 4 x 1.5 at a fourth.
  • Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and BC Place ban backpacks outright, clear ones included, and Dodger Stadium, AT&T Stadium, Toyota Center, Fiserv Forum, T-Mobile Center, ACL Live and Ascend Amphitheater ban them too. Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre and Coca-Cola Amphitheater allow only clear ones within 12 x 6 x 12 inches. Arrowhead Stadium, Lambeau Field and Mercedes-Benz Stadium also allow clear backpacks within that size, Citi Field allows only totally clear ones, and Lincoln Financial Field, Oracle Park, Xfinity Mobile Arena and Ball Arena ban backpacks, with Oracle Park naming clear ones too. Allegiant Stadium, Raymond James Stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium, Ford Field, M&T Bank Stadium and Capital One Arena ban backpacks, Empower Field allows clear ones, and State Farm Arena allows only single-compartment drawstring bags and fashion backpack purses. Huntington Bank Field, Northwest Stadium, Truist Park, Target Field, Little Caesars Arena, Target Center and Delta Center ban them, Paycor Stadium, U.S. Bank Stadium and State Farm Stadium allow clear ones within 12 x 6 x 12 inches, and Petco Park allows only a single-compartment clear bag. Chase Center and Shoreline Amphitheatre ban them, with a drawstring-bag exception at Chase Center. Comerica Park, American Family Field, Great American Ball Park, Coors Field, Globe Life Field, Daikin Park and Chase Field ban backpacks, some with narrow medical, infant or drawstring exceptions, and PNC Park allows one soft-sided backpack up to 16 x 16 x 8 inches. Angel Stadium, Nationals Park, Citizens Bank Park, Tropicana Field, Rate Field, T-Mobile Park and Sutter Health Park ban backpacks too, and so do Honda Center, Spectrum Center, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Paycom Center, FedExForum, Kia Center, Golden 1 Center, Frost Bank Center, Rocket Arena, Smoothie King Center, Mortgage Matchup Center, KeyBank Center, Lenovo Center, Nationwide Arena, Rogers Place, Amerant Bank Arena, Grand Casino Arena, Bridgestone Arena, Prudential Center, UBS Arena, Canadian Tire Centre, PPG Paints Arena, Enterprise Center, Canada Life Centre, Bell Centre, T-Mobile Arena, Saddledome and American Airlines Center, and Nationals Park and Rate Field name clear ones. Camden Yards and loanDepot park do not name them and allow only a clear bag within their size.
  • Disney's theme parks allow backpacks up to 24 x 15 x 18 inches and set no clear bag rule. Wembley counts a rucksack as your one bag and caps it at A4 size.

Before you go

  1. 1Read the bag size limit before you read the item rules, because it decides most backpack questions.
  2. 2A small clutch is often the easy way through a strict bag policy.
  3. 3Pack as little as you can. Every bag is inspected, and smaller bags move faster.

Questions about backpacks

  1. It depends on the stadium. Some require clear bags, some allow soft-sided bags up to a size, and some ban non-clear backpacks. The venue page shows the exact rule.

  2. Usually yes, as long as it fits the size limit. Check the stated dimensions, because a clear backpack can still be too big.

  3. Some do, with a size limit. Some arenas we checked allow any style of bag that fits a size limit or under the seat, and several others allow no backpacks at all.
