Short answer
SAP Center recommends bags of 5 by 9 by 2 inches or smaller, but accepts bags up to 20 by 14 by 11 inches that fit under your seat and get x-rayed. Sharks games allow reasonable food and empty bottles, while concerts ban outside food. Strollers stay out of the seating bowl, with no bag check or re-entry.

Bag policy in detail
Fans are asked to bring bags of 5 x 9 x 2 inches or smaller for faster entry. Bags up to 20 x 14 x 11 inches are accepted if they fit under the seat, and all bags over 5 x 9 x 2 inches, medical and infant bags included, get x-ray inspection and longer waits. Bags of any style within 20 x 14 x 11 inches are accepted, and anything over 5 x 9 x 2 inches gets x-ray inspection. The pages do not name backpacks. A bag up to 20 x 14 x 11 inches that fits under your seat is accepted after x-ray.
- Bags up to 20 x 14 x 11 inches
- 5 x 9 x 2 inches is faster
- Food and empty bottles at Sharks games
- No bag check or re-entry
Food and drink
One sealed bottle of water is permitted at Sharks, family and other sporting events, and empty reusable bottles are permitted at all events. For concerts and other events outside food and beverage, bottled water included, are not permitted. At Sharks games, family shows and other sporting events guests may bring reasonable amounts of food and non-alcoholic beverages for their own use. Concerts, comedy shows, WWE and similar events ban outside food and beverage, with medical exceptions. Hard-sided coolers are on the prohibited items list. The pages do not name soft-sided coolers.
Cameras and electronics
At Sharks and sporting events still cameras are allowed if the lens does not exceed 6 inches. For concerts only cameras that fit in a pocket are allowed, and professional or detachable-lens cameras are prohibited. Action cameras are never permitted. Still cameras are allowed at Sharks games if the lens is no longer than 6 inches, and detachable lenses are prohibited at concerts. Tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are never permitted. Drones are never permitted at SAP Center. The prohibited items page lists laptops as a heading under concerts without a rule, so the pages do not give a clear laptop answer. The pages do not mention tablets and power banks.
Strollers and family items
Child strollers and baby carriers are not permitted in the seating bowl, but they can be checked free for the whole event and collected on the way out. Medical and infant bags over 5 x 9 x 2 inches get x-ray inspection like any larger bag. Outside food and beverage for medical reasons is always permitted.
Umbrellas, blankets and comfort items
The pages do not mention umbrellas, blankets and seat cushions.
Signs, flags and fan items
Signs and banners must be event related, up to 20 x 30 inches, not on a pole or stick and not blocking views. Dry-erase boards, blank signs and signs with battery lights are not allowed. The only flags permitted are San Jose Sharks flags and Bay Area Panthers flags bought at official stands in the building. Other themed flags may be allowed on theme nights, and poles are not allowed. The pages do not mention binoculars.
Medical needs and accessibility
Medical and infant bags larger than 5 x 9 x 2 inches get x-ray inspection like any other bag. Outside food and beverage for medical reasons is always permitted at SAP Center.
Security screening and arrival
Every event uses walk-through weapons detection and x-ray bag screening. Bags must fit under your seat, and bags over 20 x 14 x 11 inches are not permitted. SAP Center has a general no re-entry policy during all events.
Bag storage and lockers
SAP Center no longer offers a bag check or onsite storage lockers. Strollers and baby carriers can be checked free for the event, and prohibited items can be thrown away or returned to your vehicle.
Sharks games, concerts and other events
The food, bottle and camera rules differ for Sharks and sporting events, family shows and concerts, and the page says the promoter sets camera rules for each event. Check the event page for your date.
