Can I bring a seat cushion to a stadium?

Often not. One stadium we checked bans cushions of any size except for medical needs, some NFL stadiums allow soft ones, and others do not mention them.

Are stadium seats with backs and cushions allowed?

Policies for these are specific and change by venue. Check the venue page and the event page.

What counts as a medical need?

Venues usually decide this themselves. Contact guest services before the event.

What seat cushions rules look like

One stadium bans seat cushions of any size, except for medical needs.
Some NFL stadiums allow soft cushions with no pockets, zippers or hard parts, and one caps the size at 22 x 16 inches. Lumen Field and Levi's Stadium allow them too, Bank of America Stadium allows plain pads without covers or zippers, and AT&T Stadium and Acrisure Stadium ban them. Nissan Stadium's page contradicts itself, since it lists cushions as prohibited and also allows enclosed ones with no zippers or metal. BC Place lists seat cushions among its prohibited bags, and Shoreline Amphitheatre allows soft seating pads without a hard frame. Ascend Amphitheater allows backless, legless stadium cushions. Hard Rock Stadium and Arrowhead Stadium ban cushions, Lincoln Financial Field allows plain ones up to 15 x 15 inches, Lambeau Field allows seats with backs up to 18 inches wide, Gillette Stadium bans ones with pockets or zippers, and Ball Arena allows them for medical needs. Highmark Stadium allows ones up to 15 x 15 inches, Empower Field one-piece foam ones under 18 inches wide, and M&T Bank Stadium ones with no back, zipper or pocket, while Allegiant Stadium, Raymond James Stadium, NRG Stadium, Ford Field and EverBank Stadium ban them. Paycor Stadium and Northwest Stadium want none with pockets or zippers, State Farm Stadium allows one-piece ones, and Little Caesars Arena allows soft ones with no metal. Comerica Park allows soft ones too, Chase Field one-piece ones up to 18 inches wide with no pockets, and Coors Field seat cushions and bleacher back rests. Sutter Health Park allows seat cushions, and T-Mobile Park bans chairs, stools and bleacher seat backs that contain metal. Climate Pledge Arena allows blankets and seat cushions after x-ray, while Rogers Place, T-Mobile Arena and Moda Center ban seat cushions or outside chairs, and Honda Center bans booster seats.
Several venues we checked do not mention seat cushions.
Hard-sided items are banned at one stadium, which would catch a rigid cushion.

Before you go

1If you need a cushion for medical reasons, contact the venue before the event.
2A soft, foldable cushion is less likely to run into a hard-sided item rule.
3Check whether your seats are bench seats. Some outdoor venues have rules for those.

Questions about seat cushions

Often not. One stadium we checked bans cushions of any size except for medical needs, some NFL stadiums allow soft ones, and others do not mention them.
Policies for these are specific and change by venue. Check the venue page and the event page.
Venues usually decide this themselves. Contact guest services before the event.
