Short answer

At the three Six Flags parks we read, outside food, drinks and coolers are not allowed, with exceptions for infant food in non-glass jars and for food allergies. Bags have no stated size limit but are screened. Selfie sticks, folding chairs, glass bottles and drones are banned. Each park sets its own rules, so check yours.

Every rule at Six Flags

An item that is not listed is not mentioned in the official pages we checked. Each row links to the page its rule came from.

Bag policy in detail

The park policy pages we read do not set a bag size limit. Great Adventure says all bags, backpacks and personal items are subject to screening and inspection before park entry.

Magic Mountain says all loose articles, including phones, hats, purses and backpacks, beverage containers and other items, are prohibited on all rides. Guests can leave them in a locker or with a non-rider.

  • No bag size limit stated on the pages we read
  • Bags, backpacks and personal items are screened
  • Loose articles are not allowed on rides
  • Lockers are available inside the parks

Food and drink

At all three parks, food, beverages, coolers and grills may not be brought into the park. The exceptions are food for guests with life-threatening allergies, and infant food in non-glass jars. Grills and open flames are strictly prohibited in and around the property, parking lots included.

A guest with an allergy can bring food limited to two sealable sandwich bags of 7 by 8 inches and one snack, such as a piece of fruit, a fruit bar or something that fits in a sandwich bag. One small soft-sided cooler can carry these items. No outside beverages are permitted, and you collect a medical sticker from Security at screening.

Glass bottles are prohibited, except small containers such as baby food jars. No outside alcohol can be brought into Six Flags parks.

Cameras and electronics

Guests can take photos and video while enjoying the park, for personal use only. Commercial photography needs written consent from Six Flags. Selfie sticks, monopods and similar hand-held extension poles are prohibited. Great Adventure also prohibits tripods.

Rides are stricter. Magic Mountain allows no cameras of any kind on rides, with no exceptions, and its filming policy covers phones, GoPros and cameras mounted to vehicles. Over Texas and Great Adventure allow a head-mounted glasses camera with a retention strap in limited cases, and Great Adventure allows filming only on two rides. Drones and all other unmanned aerial vehicles are prohibited.

Strollers and family items

The policy pages we read do not describe strollers, wagons or nappy bags. Infant food in non-glass jars is the one family exception to the food ban. Contact the park or ask at Guest Relations if you plan to bring a stroller.

Umbrellas, blankets and comfort items

The pages do not mention umbrellas, blankets or seat cushions. Lawn chairs and folding chairs are prohibited.

Rides can close during electrical storms, heavy rain or high winds, and refunds and rain checks are not offered for weather.

Signs, flags and fan items

The pages do not mention signs, banners or flags. They do ban clothing and visible tattoos that depict violence, nudity, vulgarity or discriminatory language, and clothing cannot be turned inside out as a fix.

Spiked clothing and jewelry, spray paint and markers, laser pointers, scooters, skateboards and shoes with built-in wheels are prohibited.

Medical needs and accessibility

Service animals are welcome and have to stay under the guest's control by leash, harness, voice, signal or another effective control. Animals that do not meet the definition of a service animal are not allowed. Magic Mountain offers a kennel for dogs and cats.

The pages describe no separate medical bag process. Guests with life-threatening allergies who bring food get a medical sticker from Security.

Security screening and arrival

Great Adventure says all bags, backpacks and personal items are screened before park entry. Guests who leave and plan to return need a re-entry stamp or wristband before they go, and re-entry is not allowed in the last 15 minutes before closing at Magic Mountain.

Magic Mountain also has a chaperone policy. From 4:00 PM daily, every guest aged 15 or younger must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21, with a government photo ID. Check your park's page for its own version.

Bag storage and lockers

Magic Mountain has lockers for all-day rental in Six Flags Plaza behind Guest Relations, and lockers at select attractions for short storage of loose articles. Great Adventure and Over Texas say guests may leave loose items in a locker or with a non-rider, without naming locations. The parks are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items.

Park by park differences

Six Flags sets rules park by park, and this page is built from three of them: Magic Mountain, Great Adventure and Over Texas. They agree on food, drinks, coolers, chairs, selfie sticks and drones, and they differ on tripods, on-ride cameras and chaperone rules.

Special events such as Fright Fest change entry rules. Great Adventure does not allow re-entry during Fright Fest Extreme, and Magic Mountain stops re-entry at 9 PM on Fright Fest nights. Read your own park's policy page before you go.
