Short answer
Walt Disney World allows bags, backpacks and coolers up to 24 by 15 by 18 inches, with or without wheels, and all of them can be screened. You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks if they are not in glass and need no heating or refrigeration. Wagons, folding chairs, selfie sticks, flags and banners are not allowed.
Every rule at Disney World
An item that is not listed is not mentioned in the official pages we checked. Each row links to the page its rule came from.
Bag policy in detail
Suitcases, bags, coolers and backpacks larger than 24 inches long, 15 inches wide and 18 inches high are not allowed in any theme park or water park. The limit applies with or without wheels, and the page gives it as 61 by 38 by 46 centimeters.
There is no clear bag rule. All persons, bags, parcels, clothing and other items may be subject to screening or security checks, which can include uniformed police, hazard detection canines, screening technology and bag checks. The resort reserves the right not to allow any bag, parcel or other item.
Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search.
- Bags, backpacks, suitcases and coolers up to 24 x 15 x 18 inches
- Wheels are allowed within that size
- Everything can be screened
- Larger bags are not allowed in any theme park or water park
Food and drink
The resort's FAQ says guests are allowed to bring outside food and non-alcoholic drinks into the park for self-consumption. They cannot be in glass containers, cannot need heating, reheating, processing, refrigeration or temperature control, and cannot have pungent odors. Tell a Security Cast Member about any food when you enter.
Glass containers are banned, except small ones such as baby food jars and except in the resort hotels. Alcoholic beverages are banned too, except at the resort hotels, and wine can be brought into Disney Springs to drink at select table service restaurants, where corkage fees apply.
Coolers are allowed within the bag size limit. Loose or dry ice is not permitted in them, and reusable ice packs are recommended. Plastic straws are not permitted at Disney's Animal Kingdom, the water parks or Animal Kingdom Lodge.
Cameras and electronics
Selfie sticks and hand-held extension poles for cameras or mobile devices are not allowed in any theme park or water park. Tripods and monopods are not allowed if they cannot fit inside a standard backpack or extend over 6 feet. Drones and remote-control toys are prohibited.
The rules page does not set limits on personal cameras, and it does not mention laptops, tablets or power banks. It bans photography, videotaping or recording for unapproved commercial purposes.
Strollers and family items
Strollers that are greater than 31 inches wide and 52 inches long are prohibited. Stroller wagons and wagons are not allowed at any theme park or water park, and neither is any trailer-like object pushed, pulled or towed by a stroller, wheelchair or person.
Wheeled mobility devices must have at least three wheels, stay stable when stopped, be single rider, and not exceed 36 inches wide and 52 inches long. Balloons are not permitted at Disney's Animal Kingdom or the water parks.
Umbrellas, blankets and comfort items
The rules page does not mention umbrellas, blankets or seat cushions. Folding chairs are not allowed in any theme park, water park or at Disney Springs.
The resort says it can prohibit any other item that it decides may be harmful or disruptive, so check before you bring something bulky.
Signs, flags and fan items
Flags and banners are not allowed in any theme park or water park. Guests aged 14 or older cannot wear costumes in the theme parks or water parks, and masks are not allowed for guests 14 or older unless required for medical purposes.
Horns, whistles, large megaphones and artificial noise makers are prohibited. So are objects or toys that look like weapons, fireworks, and smoke or fog machines.
Medical needs and accessibility
Service animals, meaning dogs and miniature horses trained to help a person with a disability, are allowed. They should stay on a leash or in a harness under the owner's control.
Masks are allowed when required for medical purposes. The rules page has no separate medical bag process, so ask a Cast Member at the entrance if you carry medical supplies.
Security screening and arrival
All persons, bags, parcels, clothing and other items may be subject to screening or security checks. A valid ticket and valid identification confirmation are required for entry, re-entry and crossover into any park on each day of the ticket.
Smoking, including e-cigarettes, is allowed only in designated outdoor smoking areas.
Bag storage and lockers
Each Walt Disney World theme park has keyless lockers rented for a one-time daily charge, first come, first served. Small lockers (12 x 10 x 17 inches) cost 10 dollars a day and large ones (15.5 x 13 x 17 inches) cost 12 dollars. A jumbo locker (17 x 22 x 26 inches) costs 15 dollars a day and is offered only at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.
Bags larger than 24 x 15 x 18 inches are not allowed in any theme park, so a locker is the place for anything that does not fit.
Parks, water parks and special events
These rules cover the theme parks and water parks, and a few apply only at Disney's Animal Kingdom or the water parks. The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the Disney Resort hotels have extra rules of their own.
The page says the rules are subject to change at any time without notice. Special events can add their own guidelines, so check the event page for the date you are going.
