Short answer
Wrigley Field allows bags smaller than 16 by 16 by 8 inches, but backpacks, including clear ones, and hard-sided coolers are banned. You can bring factory-sealed plastic bottles or empty plastic ones, plus a personal amount of food in a small disposable bag. There is no bag or luggage storage.
Every rule at Wrigley Field
An item that is not listed is not mentioned in the official pages we checked. Each row links to the page its rule came from.
Bag policy in detail
Backpacks, including clear backpacks, hard-sided coolers of any size and bags larger than 16 by 16 by 8 inches are not permitted at Wrigley Field. Other bags, such as wallets, purses, drawstring bags, fanny packs, lunch bags, briefcases and soft-sided coolers smaller than 16 by 16 by 8 inches, are permitted.
Exceptions are made for medical bags and diaper bags that accompany guests with young children. All bags are subject to inspection, and the Cubs can refuse any item they find hazardous or suspicious. Wrapped packages are prohibited.
- Bags smaller than 16 x 16 x 8 inches
- No backpacks, clear ones included
- No hard-sided coolers of any size
- Medical and diaper bag exceptions
Food and drink
Factory-sealed plastic bottles can be brought in, and the prohibited list adds that non-factory-sealed plastic bottles are permitted if empty. A personal amount of food in a small, disposable bag is allowed too.
Glass bottles, cans, alcoholic beverages, thermoses, flasks, tumblers and hard-sided coolers of any kind are not allowed. Metal and aluminum containers are not allowed either.
Cameras and electronics
Cameras designed for personal viewing are allowed, as long as they do not interfere with the game or other guests. Professional-grade video and still cameras, including those with extended or removable lenses and attachments such as microphones, are not permitted. Tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are not permitted. Drones are prohibited.
The page does not mention laptops, tablets or power banks. It lists charging stations in the left field and right field Budweiser Bleacher concourses and on the ramp near the Addison Street ballpark entrance.
Strollers and family items
Collapsible umbrella strollers that fit under the seat are permitted. All other strollers can be claim-checked at the Cubs' Bike Valet Service in the alley just east of the main entrance to the CTA Red Line stop on Addison Street. Luggage and car seats are on the prohibited list.
Exceptions to the bag rules are made for diaper bags that accompany guests with young children.
Umbrellas, blankets and comfort items
Small, collapsible umbrellas are permitted. Umbrellas with metal tips and umbrellas larger than 10 inches are not.
The page does not mention blankets or seat cushions. Portable stadium seats are on the prohibited list.
Signs, flags and fan items
Banners, signs and flags are allowed. They can be displayed only before the game, between innings and after the game. They can never be mounted on sticks, wooden frames or similar, cannot be attached to railings, seats or walls, and cannot be carried through sections. You hold a sign at your seat.
The Cubs can confiscate banners with an inappropriate, commercial or political message, or ones that cause a disturbance or block sightlines. Brooms, poles, staffs, sticks, inflatables, beach balls, laser pointers, air horns and full-sized baseball bats are prohibited.
Medical needs and accessibility
Exceptions are made for medical bags and diaper bags that go with guests with young children. Animals are not allowed, except service animals that help guests with disabilities.
The page points to a separate accessibility guide, including details on sensory bags and the sensory room.
Security screening and arrival
All bags and items are subject to inspection. Gates open 90 minutes before first pitch for most games, and two hours before for Opening Day, Saturday games and special occasions.
Guests may not exit and re-enter the ballpark. The exception is Gallagher Way, where guests can exit during games through its gate and re-enter until the bottom of the eighth inning.
Bag storage and lockers
The Cubs do not offer large bag or luggage storage, and no personal item storage, so plan accordingly. The free bike valet takes bikes and personal motorized scooters, and it also holds strollers that do not fit under the seat.
Cubs games and other events
The prohibited items list applies at Wrigley Field and Gallagher Way during Cubs games and winter programming. The page says the list can be different for non-baseball events, and points to Cubs Fan Services at 800-THE-CUBS for questions about other events.
The Cubs can refuse any item deemed hazardous or suspicious, including anything that could be used as a projectile.
