Yankee Stadium Entry Rules: Bags, Water, Food and Cameras

Checked Source: Yankees official policies page (mlb.com, opens in a new tab), Yankees official entry page (mlb.com, opens in a new tab)Verified by BC

Short answer

You can bring one soft-sided bag up to 16 by 16 by 8 inches into Yankee Stadium for Yankees games, plus one smaller soft-sided personal item. Hard-sided bags are not allowed, and there is no bag storage. Food for your own use is fine, and so is an empty, reusable water bottle up to 24 ounces.

Every rule at Yankee Stadium

An item that is not listed is not mentioned in the official pages we checked. Each row links to the page its rule came from.

Bag policy in detail

For Yankees games, each guest can bring in one MLB-compliant bag and one smaller soft-sided personal item, such as a handbag, clutch, tote or plastic grocery bag.

An MLB-compliant bag is soft-sided and no larger than 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches. Hard-sided bags and containers of any size are not allowed. The one exception is an empty, reusable, non-glass water bottle up to 24 oz.

Bag-size bins at the entry points confirm the size. Your bag has to fit without help, changes or adjustment. Bags, personal items and their contents are visually inspected and can be searched or X-rayed.

  • One smaller soft-sided personal item
  • No hard-sided bags or containers of any size
  • Everything is inspected at the gate

Food and drink

You can bring food into Yankee Stadium for your own use. Whole fruit like apples and oranges has to be sliced or sectioned first.

On drinks, three kinds of container are allowed: empty reusable non-glass bottles up to 24 oz, clear factory-sealed plastic bottles of water up to 1 liter, and unopened soft-sided single-serve nonalcoholic drinks such as small milk cartons or juice boxes.

Glass bottles and cans are not allowed. Exceptions exist for medical needs and for glass baby bottles, and management decides each one. Alcohol cannot be brought in, and anyone who hides it is denied entry without a refund.

Cameras and electronics

Single-frame flash photography and extended-length zoom lenses are allowed as long as they do not interfere with the game or other guests.

Selfie sticks, tripods and monopods, other professional camera equipment, video cameras and any gear made only for recording video or audio are not allowed. Drones and laptop computers are not allowed either. Guests also cannot stream or transmit anything about the game.

At the metal detector you take phones, cameras and large metal objects out of your pockets and put them in a small plastic container. The official pages do not mention power banks, so treat them like any other item that has to pass inspection.

Strollers and family items

Strollers are allowed. A fold-up stroller can be stored under your seat if it fits safely and does not block the aisle. Large folding and non-folding strollers are stored at the Guest Relations and Ticket Sales Booth next to Gate 6 in the Great Hall.

Everyone is screened, including children. Infants and toddlers can be carried through the metal detector, and children who can walk may be asked to walk through on their own.

Umbrellas, blankets and comfort items

Small umbrellas are allowed, but one can only be used if it covers just the person holding it and does not block other guests' view. Large and golf umbrellas are not allowed, and you can be asked to close yours.

The official pages do not mention blankets or seat cushions. Hard-sided items of any kind are banned, so a rigid cushion is a risk.

Signs, flags and fan items

Banners, signs, flags and apparel are allowed unless management decides they are offensive, threatening, disruptive or likely to take away from someone else's enjoyment of the event. This applies in the stadium and on Babe Ruth Plaza and nearby sidewalks.

Poles, staffs and sticks are banned, and so are masks and costumes, confetti and glitter, balloons and flowers, and projectiles such as flying discs or beach balls.

Medical needs and accessibility

Service animals for guests with disabilities are allowed. Other animals are not.

Personal vehicles such as hoverboards are banned, with an exception for devices required under the ADA. For medical needs involving bottles and cans, staff decide on exceptions. The official pages do not describe a separate medical bag process, so ask a team member at the gate if you carry medical supplies.

Security screening and arrival

Everyone is screened by metal detector before entering, at every gate, for all events. You also go through a bag check, and then your ticket is scanned. Removing belts, jackets and shoes is not required right now.

If a detector picks something up, you are directed to the side for a hand-held detector or a pat-down. You can also choose a manual check instead of the walk-through detector. The Yankees strongly suggest allowing extra time to get in.

You cannot leave and come back on the same ticket. Re-entry is only allowed in an emergency.

Bag storage and lockers

There is no storage area for any items at Yankee Stadium. If you arrive by public transportation, check your bag before you leave home, because no exceptions are made for prohibited items.

Concerts, soccer and other events

Everything above applies to New York Yankees games. Yankee Stadium also hosts New York City FC matches, college football, concerts and other events, and the official pages say different restrictions may apply for those.

Special rules can also be set for a specific event, and management can change any rule without notice. Check the event page or your ticket confirmation before you go.

Prohibited items

From the official entry page. Staff can also refuse anything they decide could affect safety.
