Short answer

BC Place strongly encourages guests to bring no bag. It allows bags up to 6.5 by 8.5 inches or a clear bag up to 12 by 12 by 6 inches, and bans purses and backpacks, clear ones included. Empty water bottles up to one liter are allowed. Bag check costs 10 dollars per piece.

An item that is not listed is not mentioned in the official pages we checked. Each row links to the page its rule came from.

Bag policy in detail

BC Place has a restricted bag policy and strongly encourages guests not to bring bags of any type. Two kinds of bag are allowed: a bag no larger than 6.5 by 8.5 inches, or a clear plastic bag, freezer bags included, no larger than 12 by 12 by 6 inches. All bags are subject to search.

Exceptions may be provided for diaper bags and medically necessary items that cannot fit into a clear bag. The prohibited bags are purses, backpacks including clear ones, mesh bags, camera bags, binocular cases, seat cushions, non-clear belt bags over 6.5 by 8.5 inches, tinted or printed plastic bags, non-clear totes, cinch bags, luggage, coolers and container bags.

The page notes that requirements for the FIFA World Cup 26 may vary, and it points to the official FIFA channels.

  • Bags no larger than 6.5 x 8.5 inches
  • Or a clear plastic bag up to 12 x 12 x 6 inches
  • No purses, backpacks, cinch bags or non-clear totes

Food and drink

Outside food and beverages are not permitted, products with cannabis included. Exceptions may be made for medical or dietary reasons. Alcohol is prohibited, and beer is served to a maximum of 24 ounces per transaction.

Empty personal water bottles, with or without lids, up to 1 liter are allowed and are inspected at the gate. You can fill one at the drinking fountains on the main concourse, or buy bottled water at concessions. Glass bottles of any size, perfume or cologne bottles, and bottles over 1 liter are not allowed.

Cameras and electronics

Cameras with detachable lenses, or detached lenses, are prohibited. So are cameras with a fixed lens longer than 6 inches, or 150 millimeters. The page says the camera policy may vary for specific events. Tripods, selfie sticks and drones are prohibited.

Guests are encouraged not to bring large devices. Laptops and small laptop sleeves, and tablets and tablet cases, measuring less than 12 by 12 by 6 inches are allowed, and they are inspected. You may be asked to turn a device on. The stadium has secure phone charging stations you can lock a device in.

Strollers and family items

The pages do not mention strollers, wagons or baby food. Diaper bags and medically necessary items that do not fit in a clear bag can be exceptions to the bag rule, so contact the stadium before your event if you are bringing a baby.

Umbrellas, blankets and comfort items

The pages do not list umbrellas or blankets as allowed or prohibited. The screening steps mention putting umbrellas on the table before the metal detector. Seat cushions are on the prohibited bags list.

Signs, flags and fan items

Signs, flags and displays that are offensive, racist, discriminatory, use inappropriate language, or are religious, political or commercial are prohibited. At concerts, all posters and signs are prohibited except those bought from authorized merchandise locations on Terry Fox Plaza. Flag poles must be no longer than 3.5 feet and made of PVC pipe.

Drums are allowed if they fit in your lap, and they are searched. Vuvuzelas, loud cups and cowbells are allowed at BC Lions games but not at Canada Soccer or Whitecaps FC matches. Air horns and whistles of any kind, helium balloons, beach balls and inflated balls are prohibited. Costume masks can be worn only in your assigned seat.

Medical needs and accessibility

Exceptions may be made for guests with medical and other special requirements. The stadium strongly recommends getting authorization in advance by contacting it by email. Exceptions to the smoking and drug policy can be made for a valid medical cannabis document.

Security screening and arrival

Everyone goes through a screening procedure that includes a metal detector, and failing to take part means being refused entry. Have your ticket ready and download electronic tickets first. Place objects such as umbrellas, purses, permitted bags and cameras on the table before the metal detector. Phones, keys, wallets, coins, watches, belts, shoes and jackets do not need to come off unless staff ask.

There are no in-and-out privileges once you are inside, except for emergency or medical reasons. The venue is smoke-free, with no designated smoking areas.

Bag storage and lockers

Bag check is available at events, first come, first served, for 10 dollars per piece. Storage is at the sole risk of the person who leaves the bag. If a banned item is found during a search, you can check it at bag check when it is open, return it to your vehicle or hotel, or hand it over for disposal.

Events and special requirements

The page says prohibited items are subject to change for different events and tells guests to read the FAQ for their event. Security measures may be increased for certain events, and the stadium points to a separate list for event-specific prohibited items.

Whitecaps FC matches follow the MLS fan code of conduct and the club's visual display policy.
