Every rule at Nationals Park

An item that is not listed is not mentioned in the official pages we checked. Each row links to the page its rule came from.

Bag policy in detail

Any bag larger than a 5 x 7 x 0.75 inch clutch must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and no larger than 16 x 16 x 8 inches. A one-gallon freezer bag counts, and a small non-clear clutch can come in with one of the clear options. All bags are searched. Backpacks, clear backpacks included, are prohibited. A backpack bought inside the stadium complex on game day is tagged and allowed for that day only. A non-clear clutch up to 5 x 7 x 0.75 inches, with or without a handle or strap, can be carried in beside a clear bag. Any larger non-clear purse is prohibited.

Food and drink

One clear, factory-sealed or empty plastic water bottle of up to 1 liter per person is allowed. Metal and glass containers are not, and frozen bottles are not allowed except ones holding infant or human milk. Single-serving food items may be brought in if they are in one of the approved bags or carried in your hands so they can be screened. Juice boxes, insulin containers and baby food are also named as allowed. Soft-sided coolers, hard coolers and ice chests are all listed as prohibited bags.

Cameras and electronics

Cameras and video equipment are allowed for personal use only. Lenses longer than 8 inches, monopods, tripods and selfie sticks are not allowed, and filming game footage is prohibited by MLB. Camera bags are on the prohibited bag list. Camera lenses longer than 8 inches are not allowed, except for credentialed media. Tripods, monopods and selfie sticks are not permitted. Drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles are prohibited. The pages do not name laptops, but computer bags are on the prohibited bag list, so a laptop would have to fit a clear bag. The pages do not mention power banks. The pages do not mention tablets.

Strollers and family items

Strollers are allowed in all concourse areas. A stroller that cannot fold and fit under a seat must be checked at a Guest Services location, and the Nationals are not responsible for one left unchecked. Exceptions may be made for diaper bags and other bags used for medical reasons. Fans with them can use the ADA and family lanes, and season plan holders can request exceptions at the season plan holder gate.

Umbrellas, blankets and comfort items

Small collapsible umbrellas that fit in a bag of the maximum allowed size are allowed. An umbrella that blocks sightlines or becomes a nuisance is not, and staff can ask you to lower it. The pages do not mention blankets and seat cushions.

Signs, flags and fan items

The guest conduct policy welcomes handheld signs and banners up to 2 feet by 4 feet, one per guest, shown still inside the seating area without blocking anyone's view. Commercial and derogatory messages are not allowed. The pages do not mention flags. Brooms, poles and staffs of any kind are prohibited. The pages do not mention binoculars.

Medical needs and accessibility

Exceptions may be made for diaper bags and other bags used for medical reasons, and fans with them can use the ADA and family lanes. Season plan holders can request these exceptions at the season plan holder gate. Guests with a medical device that sets off the detector should ask staff for an alternative screening.

Security screening and arrival

Everyone walks through a metal detector or is screened with a hand-held one, and jackets, bags, purses and other containers are inspected. Guests who leave Nationals Park without a gate supervisor's authorization are not permitted to re-enter. The Nationals will not hold or return any surrendered prohibited item.

Bag storage and lockers

Binbox lockers sit outside the Center Field, Left Field and Home Plate gates from two hours before first pitch until one hour after the last pitch, in medium and large sizes for a small fee. Bags in a locker are subject to security inspection. You can also return items to your vehicle, and bicycle helmets can go to the free bike valet.

Nationals games and other events

The pages are written for Nationals home games. They give no separate list for concerts or other events, so check the event page for your date.
